Fiberbots are possibly one of the most disruptive and innovative projects in the field of architecture and construction in recent decades. It is an autonomous digital manufacturing platform designed for the rapid construction of structures. Fiberbots can create structures of highly resistant materials using small robots working in groups to wind fiberglass filament and create tubular structures. Construction is computer-driven since robots are mobile are interconnected and therefore no operator or trowel is required to build.
The first project made with fiberbots was a 4.5-foot-tall structure that was outside of MIT in Massachusetts and perfectly withstood the demanding climate of the area during the winter. The idea is inspired by techniques that use insects such as spiders, bees or ants to create much larger structures than the animals themselves.
